The Most Important Reveal at Fanfest Was……
So when this Blog Banter goes live Fanfest will be over. Hungover geeks from around the world will be departing Reykjavik after a five-day binge of important internet spaceships and partying. Whether you were there in person, watched the streams or read the dev blogs on your mobile hidden under your work desk there was probably something in there that gave you a “nerd-boner”. What for you personally was the most important thing to come out of Fanfest 2016?

Honestly, Fanfest 2016 was a bit flat for me. The keynote was held at 7am local time on Thursday, which didn’t exactly put me in the best frame of mind to begin with. But I’ve spoken with others and everyone seems to agree that things were not quite as hype as they could be.

Citadels come out in a couple days, and at Fanfest we learned that Industrial Arrays and Drilling Platforms are next on the horizon. They also announced a pirate faction Dread, Supercarrier, and Titan – which were cool, but ultimately not in my wheelhouse. And then they introduced a strange man who looked a bit like Geralt of Rivia, then that was it.

All in all, a solid serving of things that are needed, and a little flash in the form of those pirate caps, but otherwise not much going on. In terms of importance, though, I guess the Industrial Arrays and Drilling Platforms will end up being the most important things to come out of Fanfest 2016 – they make the end of the POS road that much closer, and buybacks of POSes are expected to be in place before the next Fanfest.

There were some other tidbits, like Project Nova (the latest iteration of the Dust 514 train of thinking) on display at Fanfest and met with lukewarm politeness, Valkyrie continues to truck along, and Gunjack is apparently the best-selling VR title in the world, which is a bit shocking.

Meanwhile, the entire game is about to change this week in the midst of the largest war in years – and that promises to result in a whole additional layer of chaos in Eve. I can’t wait!
