CSMX Candidates Quizzed: Bobmon

A few years ago, I ran a questionnaire for CSM candidates regarding lowsec. This year, I’ve decided to do the same, with a twist: there is now a bonus round of questions tailored to each individual candidate that fills out the questionnaire. As quickly as I can, I’ll be posting up their responses: without edit or commentary. Next into the questionnaire octagon is EveNews24 Editor In Chief, Bobmon.

Character Name: Bobmon

Candidacy Thread: Bobmon, CSM 10

PART 1 – The Questionnaire

What single part of the game do you feel requires the most work in terms of iteration by CCP?

Enter a new life cicrle of Eve

Do you feel that lowsec is ‘fixed’? If so, explain why. If not, explain what you want to see done to fix it.

I think lowsec could be a great area for corporations and alliances to grow into names as big as we know some today.

EVE’s life cycle has to sorta start again so that we see more new faces and more dynamic game play

Do you have any plans to push CCP, if elected, to iterate on lowsec in general?

If the oppertunity is there then yes, but CSM is much more of a place to respond to CCP’s ideas then to bring in your own

In your opinion, where should lowsec rank in terms of priority for iteration by CCP?

it shouldnt have priority but a clear vision

What, in your opinion, are the main factors that make lowsec more attractive to its current residents than other areas of space?

There is a good balance between danger and safe and its a great place to start venturing into PVP

What is your thinking regarding piracy in lowsec – is it good, bad, or ugly?

What are your thoughts on the notion that increased protection for PVE players in lowsec will result in a better lowsec?

I dont know if safety is the right solution I think a general better way (none FW related) to make isk is something that will make lowsec a lot better

What are your thoughts regarding Faction Warfare, particularly the idea that FW is the killer feature of lowsec?

I think its a very cool place although I must admit on never really being there myself

If elected to CSMX and subsequently informed by CCP that lowsec was the ‘hot topic’ for iteration in the coming year, what input and advice would you have for them?

I would advice them to make it a better option for people to chose who are forming their corporations. Often corps will go from highsec into WH space because the isk intrests them. When they reach wh space they notice that they need to pvp which lead them to 2 options:
1: Die, return to highsec and often they will try again
2: learn to pvp and defend themselfes

I would love if this same concept would be applyable onto lowsec, ofcourse make it a bit more unique and something not related to FW.

The rest of my advice would be based on talking to those who living in lowsec, post in the idea forums and the onces who mail me!

BONUS – What lengths are you willing to go to in order to make pirates flashy red on overview by default again?

PART 2 – The Interview

What’s your personal background,in real life? What kind of work are you in? Does it help your chances of election, in your opinion? Why or why not?

My personal background as far as education is Marketing and Sales, However this year I started with doing a course to become
A social science teacher. Next to this, I do volunteer work where I basically lead a group of kids and do all kinds of fun activities (rock climbing etc.) Marketing and sales will
defiantly help because I have learned how to analyze communities and how to strengthen then.

If you weren’t running, but you could singlehandedly ensure that any other person in EVE would be elected to CSM, who would you pick and why.

1) CoreBloodbrothers
2) Tora Bushido
3) Manfred Sideous
4) Xander Phoena
5) Sion Kumitomo
6) Endie

Because these people all have proven themselves to understand, the game and they are nice dudes to hang with!

Other than EVE, what was your favorite game last year (2014)?

I would say: Starcraft and LOL cause they both games are quick to play in between.

What sort of background and experience do you have with lowsec in the time you’ve been playing?

I lived in low sec pre phoebe with the PL fishing crew, and we spend our time killing both super capitals and enemy sub cap gangs.

Do you feel that running an EVE Online based media site represents a conflict of interest, considering the NDA you would be operating under if elected to the CSM? How will you balance between getting news out and not being able to get news out?

No, I don’t think so, Many have gone before me and lead an organisation while being CSM, for a news site like en24 it’s just the same. We operate as a corporation, where everybody does (writes) about whatever they want. This rule goes for me too, I mean I’m in PL, I have access to our forums and stuff, but I am not posting anything to EN24 no matter how interesting it is. The same will apply to the CSM!

Tell me about the Tweetfleet forums and the attempted co-opting of a community Twitter hashtag. Was that your idea or something that came about from someone else? In your own words, what was the point behind that attempted move?

A lot was said, and I would suggest reading: I am only in charge of EN24, and Riverini organised the whole thing. I do however know that it was done in an attempt to assist the community and not steal/harm in any way possible.

You’ve shared some ideas regarding CCP Rise’s concept of a ‘hardcore player mode’ for EVE. Among those ideas, you’ve stated that hardcore characters should upon unlock be granted skillpoints to apply to ‘almost all’ PVP related skills. One of the skills you stated would not be allowed is cloaking. What’s your opinion on the role of cloaks in PVP?

Cloaks in pvp are awesome for bombers and recons, etc. but I think for this concept it would be a bit OP to have because you could instant create characters that can AFK cloak, which would be very bad for 0.0 ratters, etc. In general, cloaks are one of those features that make EVE dynamic because you are never 100% sure whats there. I love it

You have also laid out a roadmap for how you would like to see alliances grow and mature. However, EVE is a sandbox, and there are many roads to any one goal. Do you feel it is appropriate to try and encourage just one way of getting things done?

I never said that this is the right way, All I’m saying is that I feel that it would be great to have more ways. These more ways will, hopefully, lead to more alliances, corporations that will lead to more intresting gameplay.

Lowsec has already served as a proving ground of sorts for Brave Newbies, who are now a sov-holding entity out in nullsec. Many nullsec alliances have histories that involve lowsec as a vital staging ground. You’ve stated that you would like to see lowsec working in this way, but it appears it already is. Could you clarify? What would you change about lowsec to encourage this behavior?

Yes, indeed but these are all big groups or smaller groups with big (rich/experienced) players in it. I am looking at newer players who have maybe 10/20mil SP. My hope is to get these guys to group up again, form a corp, form an alliance and become awesome all by themselves without any big daddy alliance helping them.  Basicly it’s working for the experianced players, but we need to look again at the newer players in order to strengthen EVE’s life

You seem to be against jump fatigue as a concept as it is no fun on an individual level. What would your alternative be to jump fatigue?

My Idea would be just to stick with a jump timer in between jumps. This will allow players to do what they want to do while being online, and they don’t have to worry about the rest of the day. EVE is meant to be a something enjoyable after you come back from work or school not ship spinning online.

In your candidacy announcement you stated that ‘the whole pos problem’ needs to be addressed. What do you view as the ‘pos problem’?

Pos problem as in how its currently coded. This pos problem is very old, and it causes for a lot of LAG to the servers. So its one of those repeating points on my list of stuff to work on. What I view as the pos problem is that its a very rusty mechanic that could be very interesting. I am not the best with posses, but I have noticed that a lot of people have complaints, so its good to take a look at it!

In that same announcement you appeared to want a focus on improving logistics ships by implementing a T2 logi frigate, T2 logi cruiser, and T2 logi battleship. Are you aware that T2 logistics cruisers already exist? What exactly are you aiming for with these suggestions?

The T2 logi cruiser must have been a mistype LOL, What I meant is that I find it weird that I am flying a frigate that is being supported by a cruiser, while If I had a t2 frigate logi, I could benefit a lot more of me flying a smaller ship. Same as for battleships, why is a small cruiser repping a big brawling ship, just weird to me! I am writing a big piece on this soon!

Are you doing to appear on the official PL ballot as a supported candidate?

PL never really has a list to go and vote on and so members are free to chose who ever they want to vote on.

Finally, if voters knew nothing else about you, what would you want that one thing to be?

It will sound dull but if I get the chance to run for CSM 10 then I will take it and make the most out of it. I am devoted, honest and will always be open
for suggestions, tips, and cool ideas!
