A few years ago, I ran a questionnaire for CSM candidates regarding lowsec. This year, I’ve decided to do the same, with a twist: there is now a bonus round of questions tailored to each individual candidate that fills out the questionnaire. As quickly as I can, I’ll be posting up their responses: without edit or commentary. Next into the questionnaire octagon is the (relative) newbie and unofficial CFC contender, Suzy RC Mudstone.
Character Name: Suzy RC Mudstone
Candidacy Thread: SUZY for CSM!!
PART 1 – The Questionnaire
What single part of the game do you feel requires the most work in terms of iteration by CCP?
Well i think many agree that Null needs help and i think it’s getting it so i imagine my time will be after that has been drastically changed.
I think that currently the NPE needs a lot of help and i’ve run it recently. The disconnect between This is Eve and the actual intro once you sign in needs some help.
Do you feel that lowsec is ‘fixed’? If so, explain why. If not, explain what you want to see done to fix it.
lowsec is fun for a certain type of people. I enjoy it. As the border crossing from hs to null it probably should be a bit call it seedy almost. There are some mechanics that could probably use some help but further research would be needed to comment accurately
Do you have any plans to push CCP, if elected, to iterate on lowsec in general?
i think CCP should focus on the game as a whole. They seem to be taking steps and showing some serious love as of late. More than i’ve seen in my year or so of play and i’m really excited. I’d love to be a part of that and help get voices heard and hope to bring fresh blood into the mix.
In your opinion, where should lowsec rank in terms of priority for iteration by CCP?
Equally. Eve is an amazing single shard ecosystem… changes for one will impact all. So the whole has to be taken into account.
What, in your opinion, are the main factors that make lowsec more attractive to its current residents than other areas of space?
lowsec is just good old fashioned fun. fights are common, and it just seems a bit chaotic which is awesome.
What is your thinking regarding piracy in lowsec – is it good, bad, or ugly?
ugly and a great addition to the fold
What are your thoughts on the notion that increased protection for PVE players in lowsec will result in a better lowsec?
well… friends. nowhere should be 100% safe and the less safe you are should probably equal more profit. However it’s not expensive to PVP in low and you don’t have all the aspects of null so i think this should be addressed but treaded carefully with.
What are your thoughts regarding Faction Warfare, particularly the idea that FW is the killer feature of lowsec?
i don’t know a whole lot about how FW works and would need to do more homework to answer more extensively. I think it could use some for facets to make it more interesting.
If elected to CSMX and subsequently informed by CCP that lowsec was the ‘hot topic’ for iteration in the coming year, what input and advice would you have for them?
i think i would be more valuable in ship balancing, null, and new player reception but i would do my best and be 100% neutral on low sec for sure.
BONUS – What lengths are you willing to go to in order to make pirates flashy red on overview by default again?
sort of addressed this in my recent reply on the forums. https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=5380734#post5380734
overview as a whole needs love. need to talk to people and get more opinions to see if that change would be valuable. I currently use a 3rd party overview so they blink on mine 🙂
PART 2 – The Interview
What’s your personal background,in real life? What kind of work are you in? Does it help your chances of election, in your opinion? Why or why not?
I have run 2x businesses and have worked at a hospital recently in admissions and insurance verification. I am currently going back to school full time using my GI Bill. I think this helps as it has given me much life experience as well as the ability to look at complex information.
If you weren’t running, but you could singlehandedly ensure that any other person in EVE would be elected to CSM, who would you pick and why.
Mike Azeriah. the guy seems to look at things through a very objectionable point of view and a neutral view. really seems capable of understanding objectivity.
Other than EVE, what was your favorite game last year (2014)?
Eve. honestly i’ve become obsessed with it and it’s all i’ve really played since i started
What’s the nature of your past experience in lowsec?
If you want good fights and small gang you go to low sec. I love it.
You are a member of Wildly Inappropriate, a member corporation of Goonswarm Federation. You have stated that you are not an officially recognized or backed candidate. Historically, unsupported bloc candidates tend to do very poorly in the CSM elections. Do you realistically think you’ll get elected?
reality is such. i face an uphill battle and the odds are certainly stacked against me. I feel strongly for my ability to be an asset to this game and without trying and effort i’d stand no chance whatsoever. If i don’t get elected this time. I’ll try again next time. I really would love to be a member of the CSM as this game and its nuances fascinate me.
In your thread you stated that you are running in a partnership with Chance Ravinne of Wingspan – what does this mean?
Chance and i have become friends over time. I started maybe 3-4 months before he did and he ended up joining a corp i was directing very early in my eve career. I value his opinions and his fresh take on the game as much as i hope others will value mine. Ideally we would both be elected as combining both out perspectives and knowledge would be incredibly beneficial.
How much does Seraph IX Basarab bum you out? That guy is everywhere, and never very nice.
Ha! he isn’t very nice. I’ve tried to answer his questions and challenges to the best of my ability. Mike Azeriah told me a thick skin is necessary to be on CSM. I think he brings one of many perspectives to the table. I try to take into account everyone’s point of view. In this case he hasn’t swayed me from my gut. Cloaking mechanics and AFK camping need some balance. what’s the point if we aren’t actually playing? All aspects of eve should be engaging and fun.
How long have you been playing Eve in total?
I have been playing since exactly 10/31/2013 @ 0222:34 Eve Time
If I could categorize your campaign, from what I’ve seen of it so far, I’d call it a ‘community mirror’ campaign, similar to many others in the past. Most of those fail, even with an impressive amount of name recognition. Do you believe that the CSM is in danger of not representing the community as a whole?
I think there is a lot of Super Pac comparables in the CSM election bid. I’d like to see something less influenced by money and power and more influenced by understanding that the CSM is there to represent the many. Not the wealthy few.
basically if you could compare to my opinions on american political parties… boot em all and start with something fresh. 🙂
What would you change about the New Player Experience?
I really would like to see engaging gameplay. My opinion is the easiest way to facilitate that would be through something lore or story driven before the player hits the main shard. the into movie to eve is amazing. it made me so excited to play. This is Eve brought upon the same emotional response. Eve is an amazing complex beautiful world where you can do just about anything. There should be a tutorial that gives meaning to actions and tells a bit of story before you are thrust into the universe.
What do you primarily find yourself doing in Eve Online?
Lately i’ve been replenishing my walet. I do a lot of ratting and escalations to do that. I’ve done moon goo reactions and drug production and lots of pos type things. I’m really happy that CCP has stated they will be working on fixing that. Typically i save up 10 billion. then i go and promptly lose it through exploding ships, buying bling, shooting things, etc. I only make money so that i can lose it. I spend a lot of time in Vale doing small gangy stuff with renters and i enjoy teaching and leading guys who think they can’t. If Chance has showed anyone anything it’s that a newbie can.
Do you believe, in general, that context and experience are not necessary to make qualified decisions and voice legitimate opinions?
Not at all. I think that experience and context are incredibly valuable. If you are referencing my lack of experience for serving on CSMX i would say this. we have a ton of experience in all aspects. I’ve tried to experience a little of everything so far. I am not a “jabber player” i literally spend my off time playing the game interacting with the mechanics etc. I think having my non cynical perspective could be really balancing for all the bittervets on the panel.
Finally, if voters knew nothing else about you, what would you want that one thing to be?
I’m a passionate individual. I’m really passionate about Eve Online. I love this game and community and i spend a ton of my time reading and learning about what makes it tick and what people like or don’t. I’m not a game designer i just want to represent people. I swear i would do that for these people who play the game and help make it what it is.
honestly even if i don’t win. not going anywhere and i’d encourage people to contact me if they want to talk about eve. 🙂
